Most recently, Acciai Speciali Terni has developed 444Nb, a new stainless steel grade with outstanding technical properties that push forward the frontier of excellence for the automotive industry.

444Nb is a ferritic stainless steel with 19%Cr and 2%Mo, with single stabilization with Nb.

Thanks to its particular chemical composition, 444Nb stands apart from the 444 grade for its enhanced resistance to high temperatures and cyclic oxidation.

Heat resistance is crucial in the hot end exhaust system, because CO2 emissions actually decrease when components are able to reach higher temperatures. All this makes the 444Nb a particularly suitable stainless steel for this application.

444Nb’s excellent mechanical properties and good formability and weldability make it possible to achieve thinner thickness and more complex geometries. These contribute to making cars lighter, which in turn has a positive impact on fuel consumption and reduces the emissions of CO2 and other polluting agents.
