TURN – Urban Re-Generation

Sustainability District

TURN Umbria Re-Generation is a strategic project promoted by Confindustria Umbria, with the support of the Cassa di Risparmio di Terni and Perugia Foundations, aimed at guiding the regional production system toward sustainable, integrated and resilient development models.

Launched in 2019 as a project in the Terni-Narni industrial district, TURN has progressively created a dynamic business community based on sharing and promoting good environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices, involving 33 companies in the Terni-Narni district and 46 companies across the region. In its most recent phase, the project underwent significant territorial expansion with the inclusion of two new industrial districts: Perugia and Eugubino-Gualdese. The model developed in the Terni-Narni area was successfully extended both to the new districts and to the additional participating companies.

Arvedi AST is one of the eight founding companies of the project – together with other leading industrial operators – and has made a significant contribution both to defining the district’s initial sustainability standards and to spreading the model across the region.

  10. Creating a new, innovative governance framework

The main stages of the TURN journey

  1. Mapping good practices

Participating companies launched a structured process to analyze initiatives already implemented in the environmental and social fields, based on 10 assessment pillars aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

  1. Network development and continuous assessment

The project progressively expanded its scope, involving a growing number of companies. The assessment system enables periodic evaluation of both individual companies and the district as a whole, monitoring progress in sustainability.

  1. District governance and certification

In 2023, the Terni-Narni district obtained UNI ISO 37101 certification, becoming the first certified Industrial District for Sustainable Development in Italy. The TURN model is based on participatory governance founded on voluntary commitments, measurable indicators and continuous exchange of experience among companies.

  1. Evolution and digitalization

Today, TURN includes 33 companies from the Terni-Narni industrial district. In 2024, the Perugia and Gubbio industrial districts joined with 13 new participating companies, bringing the total to 46 companies in Umbria. In 2025, a digital portal was also developed to facilitate the exchange of best practices, promote joint projects and enhance the role of external stakeholders.

Italy’s first community of sustainable companies certified to ISO 37101.
